More about Dr Kos
Katarina studied medicine in Munich, Germany, and worked as a junior doctor in various English hospitals across the Midlands. She earned her PhD from Warwick University in 2004, on the topic of human fat tissue regulation by the brain through appetite regulation signals and their cross communication. She continued her research at Exeter University and practised as a diabetes consultant in the NHS. Through her medical work, Katarina recognised that modern medicine often overlooks the psychological needs associated with chronic conditions and that there is a significant lack of adequate mental health support.
After being among the first doctors at her hospital to contract COVID-19 and later experiencing long COVID, she took advantage of the lockdown to pursue a virtual psychology degree at the University of Exeter. Recently retired from her academic position, she has bid farewell to her students and is now committed to helping others. Katarina aims to leverage her extensive and diverse professional experience, hoping to continue writing scientific papers while making a positive impact to people's lives.

Core beliefs
Katarina believes in the vital role of self-care for nurturing both body and mind through engaging in activities we love, including exercise, creativity, and play. She sees resilience as emerging from facing challenges which allow for personal growth. However, during the experience of adversity, she also recognises the importance of processing emotions, as highlighted in "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk.
Inspired by Brené Brown, Katarina practises compassion for our shared humanity and vulnerability. By recognising the uniqueness of each person's reality, she promotes an open-minded and non-judgmental approach to life.

Positive energy
Katarina has recently retired from her academic career to focus on her well-being through yoga and outdoor adventures. She shares her passion for the outdoors and inspired close friends to take up triathlons and sea kayaking. She also enjoys sea swimming and rock climbing.
Living amidst the breath-taking South West countryside in company of her cat, Mia, she finds joy in practising art and sharing her love of artistic exploration and the wellbeing it brings.

The painter
Katarina has recently changed her lifestyle and emerged as artist, a passion she had engaged in since her childhood and from which she had to take a break to further her academic and NHS career. Creativity is important for a person's wellbeing. Her clients have the opportunity to integrate creative experiences within the coaching sessions. You can follow Dr Kos as artist on Instagram and see her art works in the respective art pages.
